Introduction

My poetry could be called an evolution as the more I write the more my poems evolve. The Quill to Scribe has taken many years of writing to create.

My poetry has changed and matured.  Looking over my complete catalogue of works is a journey , a personal one of challenges, struggles , celebrations , interests with twists.

The collection has serious moments along with parodies, some poems are deeply intense others are light and whimsical. If it was not for the encouragement of my Mother and friends it is very unlikely that these poems would have been written let along see public scrutiny.

The Quill to ScribePoems for the Soul is a complete collection of my poems dating back to the 1990’s. I am re visiting all the poems and have completely re written some others have been edited and had minor adjustments.

Humour , emotional poems, life ,nature along with parodies are covered. I hope you will find these enjoyable,  thought provoking and entertaining

The True King

Forged with magic and mystery

A legend of a disputed throne

Bathed in the waters of a lake

Gifted by aquatic sorceress

Held in an enchanted scabbard

Thrust into a rock by Merlin

Arise the true King

King Arthur

Excalibur the enchanted sword

Is rightfully yours

The Legend of Arthur Pendragon

Background to this Poem :
Caitlin & John Matthews produced a beautiful tarot deck illustrated by Miranda Gray . (1991 ) (2015) .These cards and the deck are inter laced in the legendary stories of Camelot, Avalon and the Round Table Knights of Arthur Pendragon . The poem sets out to tell of this legend through six of the cards

The Emblem of the Knights

The emblem of the Knights of the Round Table worn round the necks of all the Knights was given to them by King Arthur as part of the ceremony of their being made a knight.

The Order's dominant idea was the love of God, men, and noble deeds. The cross in the emblem was to remind them that they were to live pure and stainless lives, to stive after perfection and thus attain the Holy Grail.

The Red Dragon of King Arthur represented their allegiance to the King. The Round Table was illustrative of the Eternity of God, the equality, unity, and comradeship of the Order, and singleness of purpose of all the Knights.

The Legend of Arthur Pendragon

Legends from Avalon and Camelot

Merlin, Arthur and Sir Lancelot

Magic, romance, battles and fights

An enchanted sword, Round Table knights

Lady Vivian and Merlin, King Arthur and Gwen

In Avalon’s mists truth and myths blend

The Seeker stood alone at lands end

Faith and trust become his friends

A hobo’s brindle carried with pride

On to the rainbow he now strides

The journey of discovery walked alone

Mother Nature shall provide his home.

Merlin with crystal jewelled crook

Hand scribed formulas in his book

The magic is in this mans hands

Alchemy master of potions grand

Knowledge, wisdom, herbal tonics,

Pure and natural, no antibiotics

Enchantress of Avalon, All power and might

Gifting Arthur Excalibur after his swords plight

Lancelot would call you his new mum

Long before a knights battle was fought or won

You stole Merlin’s magic and forced him to leave

Avalon and Camelot he would forever grieve.

Guinevere Pendragon child of a smith

Rose to royalty, romantic and swift

Lover of Merlin and Sir Lancelot

Arthur’s wife, Queen of Camelot

Widowed ruler of the enchanted land

When Arthur fell by Mordred’s hand

Prince Arthur of Pendragon, Uther’s son

Guinevere’s love and support you won

The enchanted sword Excalibur you hold

In battles with Saxons with your Knight, bold

But Camlann saw your last gallant fight

Hail the leader of the Round Table Knights

Gwion who tasted the cauldron’s brew

Your knowledge and wisdom by magic grew

The morphed hare pursued by the hound

You became court poet and storyteller renown

Despised by Ceridwen before becoming your mum

The little boy with magical elixir covering his thumb

School Days

Once upon a time in the village
The kiddies when to school
Armed with pencils, eraser and 12 inch rule
They sat at desks did maths in their heads
Learned new words and spelt them correct
The clocks had faces with black arms
And everyone knew to go home
At a quarter to three
Homework was done before you went to bed
Wednesday morning was the day of dread
Had you learned your ABC?
Can you spell arithmetic correctly?
Looking at the paper they tried their best
To answer all the questions correctly
and master the test.

Destiny

I stand on the mountain of destiny

The cool wind brushes on my face.

I have left behind the misery,

The destruction and waste.

Looking ahead I see a path beautiful and bright

A path of opportunity surrounded by light.

From my lofty summit I see all that can be

What I do next is totally up to me.
